Discover the Ancient Roots of Kamado Bono Grills at Schtik
At Schtik, we celebrate the rich history and evolution of BBQ grilling. Historians reveal that people have been using wooden and clay vessels for cooking since ancient times, with remnants of these early cooking tools found worldwide. Some of the oldest clay pots, over 3000 years old, were discovered in China. These round clay pots are considered the ancestors of the modern KAMADO barbecue grill.
Over centuries, these simple clay pots were refined and adapted for various cooking methods. In India, they evolved into tandoor ovens, while in Japan, they became known as mushikamado. Originally used to steam rice during special ceremonies, mushikamado featured a round clay pot with a domed lid, most commonly found in Southern Japan. The Japanese further improved the design by adding air dampers to regulate temperature and began using charcoal instead of wood.
The unique mushikamado caught the attention of Americans after World War II, leading to the widespread popularity of Kamado grills. Today, these grills are beloved for their versatility and efficiency, allowing you to grill, smoke, bake, and roast with ease.
